New Delhi: England's talented all-rounder Sam Curran recently discussed his excitement at the possibility of his brother Ben Curran representing Zimbabwe in international cricket. Sam revealed that he would love the opportunity to compete against his brother at the highest level, creating a special family moment. Their father, the late Kevin Curran, was a highly respected cricketer who played for Zimbabwe, adding a sentimental touch to the idea. Sam believes that if Ben were to follow in their father's footsteps and join Zimbabwe's national team, it would be a fitting tribute to their family legacy and set the stage for an unforgettable showdown on the cricket field.
Kevin Curran played 11 ODIs for Zimbabwe from 1983 to 1987 and was a key member of the team during the 1983 World Cup in England. In a landmark victory at Trent Bridge, he contributed 27 runs and took the crucial wicket of Allan Border, helping Zimbabwe secure a memorable win over Australia.
With England and Zimbabwe scheduled for a one-off four-day Test in Nottingham next year, Sam Curran expressed his excitement at the prospect of his brother Ben potentially opening the innings for Zimbabwe. “It would be cool to see him walking out for the tourists,” the 26-year-old shared with reporters on Wednesday, as quoted by The Telegraph.
“I’d love to. It will be pretty weird, and I guess my mum will be pretty nervous if it does happen. It will be special with my dad and family history and stuff like that, and we will be incredibly proud of him. So, fingers crossed. The last 10-12 years, my dad would have been looking down on us playing. And, fingers crossed, Ben can walk out and open the batting at Trent Bridge against England, which will be pretty cool.”
Ben, who plays as a top-order batter for Northamptonshire, has played 43 first class matches and averages 33.68 with 2257 runs.
