New Delhi: Emotions ran high as Samson Viswanath, father of India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, voiced concerns about his son's security under the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. He expressed unease about the relationship between the KCA and Sanju, highlighting the need for better care and support for his son.
Samson is currently included in the India T20I squad, led by Suryakumar Yadav, for the five-match series set to begin on January 22. The wicketkeeper-batter is in Kolkata, where India will play the opening T20I at Eden Gardens.
In an interview with Sports Tak, Sanju’s father became emotional and teared up while discussing his son’s association with the KCA.
“My kids are not safe here. These people in Kerala Cricket Association will ruin my son I want to take him out from the cricket board” Sanju Samson’s father told Sports Tak.
Samson Viswanath expressed his admiration for India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for providing opportunities to his son Sanju.
“Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir gave a chance to my son and I am very grateful to them. They gave a chance to my son by witnessing his potential” added Viswanath.
When questioned about Sanju Samson’s exclusion from India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, his father stated that he is not upset with the team selected under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
“There is no need to be disappointed. I’m telling you right now, the team that has been chosen in the Champions Trophy is no less” said Samson Viswanath.
Sanju has recently begun opening the batting in T20Is, and the new role has proven to be a good fit for him. The wicketkeeper-batter scored three T20I centuries in his last five appearances in the format.
