There have been strong rumors linking the former Barcelona boss to the managerial position at United, especially with Erik ten Hag reportedly on the verge of being sacked.
The Red Devils lost to West Ham on Sunday and sit 14th in the Premier League table after their opening nine fixtures in a disastrous start to the 2024-25 season.
Gary Neville has pinpointed the moment he thinks Ten Hag could be axed as he told his podcast: ‘They’ve got a (Carabao Cup) game midweek (against Leicester) but it will all come down to next weekend’s game against Chelsea.
‘I don’t think there can be another defeat next weekend at Old Trafford. It’s getting to that point where there is a real worry, I’m worried. The results, the lack of goals, lack of performances are stacking up week after week.
‘It’s getting to the point whereby it will become unbearable the pressure in the next week or two around Ten Hag purely because of the position in the league.’
Amid the growing pressure on Ten Hag, Xavi’s wife Nuria Cunillera has uploaded a photo on her Instagram story of the legendary ex-midfielder sat with their son.
Xavi’s son is seen playing with football stickers while wearing a United home shirt, which has led fans to believe that his dad could soon be coming in as manager.
United have already held talks with Barcelona icon Xavi about replacing Ten Hag as manager, according to reports.
Xavi has been out of work since being sacked by Barcelona in May and is keen to make a return to management.
At the start of 2024 Xavi said he was going to leave his position at the Nou Camp but was then persuaded to stay by Barcelona bosses.
But it was decided he would move on following a difficult period on and off the pitch, with Barca appointing Germany’s Hansi Flick as his replacement.
Xavi was a mainstay in the great Barcelona team for well over a decade and won eight La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies during his celebrated spell at the club.
